Lord

Eric Avebury

I agree with VODI's proposal to hold a meeting for everybody who opposes caste discrimination on Dr Ambedkar's anniversary in Trafalgar Square in 2011.

Are steps being taken to book the square?

I think the idea of a birthday celebration in Trafalgar Sq. on April 14th 2011 is excellent.

If this could be well organised and coordinated, in good time, maybe with a planning committee made up of representatives from across the spectrum, then I think it has the potential to be a really good event.  Might be worth giving some thought now to funding, esp if eg want to have cultural activities etc.  Great idea.

ACC assure its fullest support to this proposal. ………….

This celebration would encompass not just Indians but people of Great Britain and the International community as it would manifest the message that Dr. Ambedkar is …. a Champion for Human Rights who fought to uphold the principles of Liberty, Equality & Fraternity.

- I suggest an ad hoc committee formed comprising of leaders of our Sabhas, Temples and Organisations to organise this celebration.

Pashori Lal Chair, Anti Caste Discrimination Alliance

This is an excellent suggestion and one which ACDA fully supports.  Let us form a planning committee to take this forward, in the way that we all showed unity of purpose in our meeting with the Government on the 4th February for the Equality Bill.

I would suggest having:

1- One steering group for over arching co-ordination

2- One sub committee for attracting funding (thanks Annapurna)

3- One sub committee to manage the venue (booking it (thanks Lord Avebury), liaising with the Police and other emergency services as is required, producing and positioning notices, etc)

4- One sub committee for managing the PR

5- Another for community liaison to fully involve all community groups and organisations from across the UK (and overseas)

6- Another to organise and manage the many cultural activities possible

7-  Another to co-ordinate the youth element across organisations

There should be enough of us to do this and let us make it a celebration of “Victory over Caste Discrimination” as it may be time to take the focus away from oppressed, more on creators of opportunity. That is it for starters.

Let us form a planning committee

with various specific sub-committees to undertake specific tasks involved

- Make it a celebration of “Victory over Caste Discrimination”

We may want to consider taking it all on fully and handling/ managing all aspects of it.  (10/05/2010)
