Diploma in Dalit Development Studies
This international study and training programme is to provide international exposure, build confidence, leadership, capacities and skills of leaders and future leaders of marginalised, excluded and Dalit communities, who normally are denied of such opportunities. This 18 Months Course is jointly conducted by VODI Institute of Developmental Studies and London School of Arts, Merrick Road, Southall, Middlesex, UB2 4AU, United Kingdom.
History: -
In 2003 VODI formalised this Training Programme amidst questions from traditional developmental professionals and non-Dalits. In spite of this VODI has been able to provide opportunities for 30+ persons from India and Nepal. Apart from personally equipping themselves to provide leadership to their communities, the presence of the students in the UK has triggered several questions to the traditional development experts and worldview about 1/3rd of the global poor whose poverty is caused by caste system.
DALIT DEVELOPMENT STUDIES: -
Taking lessons from our previous experience, the Diploma Course is being launched jointly in an accredited London based educational institution, leading to Bachelor and Post Graduate Degrees in DD Studies. The first six months of the Course is earmarked to provide fluency in English language, which is fundamental to creating international awareness and tackle the evil of social exclusion resulting from caste discrimination. The rest of the period is set apart for creating understanding of caste caused poverty and Dalit perspective in development and human rights from an international scenario.
Eligibility: - A Bachelor Degree or two years of field experience of working with people in a NGO. Preference will be for candidates from various countries which struggle with social exclusions, including Caste discrimination and poverty.
Fee: - The Course feefor the 18 months is £2500/- + £150 non-refundable Application Fee.
